Find out more about Temperature and Humidity Data Loggers

A temperature and humidity data logger records both air temperature and relative humidity (RH) at set intervals, so you can show conditions were kept within limits and spot problems early. Use the questions below to narrow the choice, or call us for a recommendation.

Why monitor humidity as well as temperature?

Too much humidity causes condensation, mould, corrosion and damage to stored goods. Too little causes static, cracking and drying out. Logging both shows the full picture in warehouses, offices, server rooms, museums, laboratories and production areas.

What is dew point and do I need it?

Dew point is the temperature at which moisture in the air condenses. Most of our loggers calculate it from temperature and RH in the software, which is useful for condensation risk in buildings, cold stores and electrical cabinets.

      How accurate do I need?

For general building and storage monitoring, around ±0.5°C and ±3% RH is usually enough. For museums, laboratories and calibration work, choose a logger with higher RH accuracy and a calibration certificate. Accuracy figures are listed on each product page.

      USB, Bluetooth or wireless?

USB: lowest cost, downloaded to a PC. Bluetooth: check and download from a phone or tablet nearby. Wi-Fi / gateway: readings sent to the cloud with email or text alarms, ideal for multiple rooms or unattended sites.

      Do I need a display?

A display lets staff check current, minimum and maximum readings at a glance without a phone or PC, which is useful in shared spaces and for daily checks. If the logger is hidden away or monitored remotely, a display isn't needed.

      Which logger do you recommend?

For most rooms and stores, a Bluetooth logger such as the HOBO MX1101 is a reliable all-rounder. For remote monitoring of several areas, choose a Wi-Fi or gateway-based system. Call us and we'll suggest the best fit, whichever brand that is.

      Understanding Relative Humidity (RH)

Relative humidity is a measure of the amount of water vapour in the air relative to the maximum amount of water vapor the air can hold at a given temperature. It's a ratio of the actual water vapour pressure to the saturation water vapour pressure at that temperature. Relative humidity is highly sensitive to temperature changes and is strongly proportional to temperature. For example, if the air is cooler, it will have a higher Relative humidity than warmer air with the same amount of absolute humidity.
